wooden boat building 2

More photos and a diary of sorts for another kind of art: the building of a Wee Lassie Cedar-Strip single-man Canoe. See the first page for the beginning of this story! In the Winter of 2006, my dad made a Wee Lassie for my husband Steven, who is an avid water-man and has always admired my dad's workmanship. Steven and I enjoyed paddling a beautiful Peterborough Canoe my dad built, last summer on the St. Lawrence river!

won't have time to complete the seat and weaving but should have the 55 " paddle ready for your arrival.

( In case you want to take her for a spin)

March 22, 2006 - we went down to FL for a visit! The first place we stopped after dad picked us up at the airport was The Boat Shop! Here is Steven and my Dad with the Wee Lassie . . . .

On the right, my dad is trying out the seat he made and caned himself.  It's not quite ready yet, but Steven can take the Wee Lassie out for a spin without the seat in place . . .  and so he did!

Steven is in love with the canoes my father builds!

We visited for just a week, and then we had to go back home. Dad got busy making paddles and caning the seat for the wee Lassie, so we could sit and use a kayak paddle as well. As you can see above, Steven is kneeling and using a canoe paddle. My dad made the Wee Lassie seat removable at Steven's request so we can use this beautiful single-man canoe either way!

My Dad :  ) Quite the craftsman and artist! (My mom says she knows where I get my talents from!!)

April 16th - my dad sends photos:

Redoing the rails, and your paddles now have varnish!

April 27th - Dad writes and sends these photos to Steven & I . . .

The little Lassie is in the beauty shop getting spruced up (varnished) on the left, and on the right: Cherry seat ready to install

May 14th - Dad writes: Making sure we have enough paddle power, see you soon!

Dad made 2 double paddles, right (kayak style). We decided he simply LIKES making paddles! I used my new paddle here on the Farmington River May 28th when we took out the Peterborough Canoe and it was beautiful! (Thanks dad)

May 25th - my parents were back in CT and dad brought the Wee Lassie home for Steven (I don't want to consider what would have happened if he forgot!). Asia and I were the first to welcome them home and see the Wee Lassie:

May 28th - The Wee Lassie is home!

thanks so much, dad!
